Abstract
Mathematical modeling is the art (or try) to mathematically describe a phenomenon. Many practical problems can be solved using mathematical models and many times, the situations are very different, but the approach and the underlying philosophy is the same. Germination and seed longevity have sigmoidal behavior, however, this behavior depends on the environmental conditions of relative humidity and temperature, and can be evaluated by different types of functions like Boltzmann, Gomperz, Weibull or logistics. Since the variables of longevity and germination are binary the proper way to set a model is by the probabilities, with specific functions of logit link, probit or log log complement, these being applied according to the function defined by the behavior setting of the original data. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the different mathematical models to predict the germination and longevity of seeds like: corn e soybeans, and develop a software, easy to use, which allows improving the choice of used function, determining quickly and minutely the useful phenomenon's parameters.
