Eco-efficiency and sustainability in ecotourism ventures: Tool proposal for decision making

Abstract

Tourism is an important activity to Brazilian Economy. Ecotourism is one of tourism segment, which should be practiced in order to enable leisure without harming the local characteristics, generating development and sustainability. Eco-efficiency can help ecotourism entrepreneurs in reducing the use of resources, reduce environmental impacts and increase the perceived value of the product or service being offered. The DPSIR tool - Driving force, Pressure, State, Impact and Response, may assist in the evaluation of the variables that impact an ecotourism project, and are the basis for the development of more specific tools decision making. The overall objective of this project is to propose a tool to assist the decision making of ecotourism entrepreneurs to eco-efficiency actions for sustainability. It is an applied research with field research in ecotourism ventures, using interviews, observation and other relevant documents for the preparation of the decision-making tool based on DPSIR. With the survey results, it is intended to produce academic papers, and disseminate this knowledge to access and apply to actors in this field. (AU)
