Abstract

Nowadays tourism industry stands out as one of the most important sectors for many countries economy, generating development, income and job opportunities. Therefore the study, organization and definition of terms used in tourism and identification of equivalents in another languages has become important in order to contribute to professional and scientific communication and information exchange. This research project aims to elaborate a trilingual tourism dictionary (Portuguese-English-Spanish) with the participation of undergraduate tourism students. As tourism is a complex and multidisciplinary domain, the project will be developed by means of subprojects involving specific terminological sets of areas relating to tourism. The research involves the domains of Terminology, Bilingual Terminology, Corpus Linguistics and Tourism. In relation to theoretical fundamentals and methodology, it follows Socioterminology (FAULSTICH, 2006; GAUDIN, 1993) and Terminology Communicative Theory (CABRÉ, 1999) concepts. Terms, definitions, contexts and equivalents will be extracted from a corpus and registered in terminological records, and the software WordSmith Tools will be used. (AU)
