Abstract

Social networks are increasingly being used as sources of scientific information, becoming locus for collection, analysis and development of scientific indicators. The measurements altmetrics are used as early impact indicators of present publications on social networks, however, there are still no systematic scientific evidence on the average correlation between measurements Altmetrics and indexes of scientific literature citations, which indicates a need for studies that may concern this thematic scope. The objective of this project is to draw a profile of international scientific journals of Information Science in social networks and compare the Web of Science citation indicators with altmetrics indicators. This is a quantitative, exploratory and descriptive research that will be worth the altmetrics measurements to analyze the performance of scientific journals on social networks. The altmetrics indicators generated in tool Altmetric will be compared with indices of international journals citations of Information Science area indexed in the Web of Science database. It is hoped that the results contribute to a better understanding of the different impact indicators - traditional and alternative - of scientific journals (AU)
