Abstract

Research into the recent diplomatic relations of Brazil and the formulation and conduct of Brazilian foreign policy has been based on official documents that are normally dispersed and not organized in a single publication; or in the case of several topics, not documented or of restricted access. This makes the research more difficult for the academic and the interested public in general and leads to consultation with secondary sources. The project "Live Sources of Brazilian External Policy” aims to study the principal areas and themes of Brazilian external policy from the Kubitschek government onwards and form a database of primary sources, that is, to place the disposal of a wider public the results of its research. For the reconstruction and analysis of the information on this period, the techniques of structured interviews with privileged witnesses will be used. The starting point is the creation of a thematic matrix which should cover the main themes and events of our foreign policy and, following this, the elaboration of the list of actors who participated directly in the analysis preparation of this policy. The principal researchers will be responsible for previously defined areas of research, for the elaboration of the questionnaires and orientation of the interviews, as well as for the analysis of the research material. All the material will be edited and available for consultation via CD-ROM, though it may be used for research before the edition. (AU)
