Abstract
The Wind energy is one electricity generation forms that most grow in the world. The use of wind energy in Brazil is still small, however, is growing rapidly. Thus, understanding the operation of wind generators is important for their control and protection. In wind generators there is an increasing use of power electronics. A research topic that is still underexplored is the analysis of electromagnetic transients that occur in wind generator during the electric faults in electric generators. Especially when they are associated with electronic power converters/inverters. The main objective of this project is the proposition of new protection techniques for wind generators based on double fed induction generators and wound rotor synchronous generators. In order to do so, an extensive bibliographical survey will be carried out followed by the evaluation of the currently used protection techniques for variable speed wind turbines. The understanding of the transient behavior of wind turbines will be fundamental for the proposal of innovative protection techniques. The study of the transient behavior will be carried out through simulations and experiments on real electric machines. In addition, the waveforms collected together with the information obtained in the simulations will serve to test the performance of the protection techniques under evaluation. (AU)
