Abstract

It is intended to characterize low-carbon steels corrosion, API 5L X65MS and API 5L X52MS in NACE 177-A, 177-B and 284-B saline solutions by electrochemical and non-electrochemical tests, as well as analysis of composition, morphology and microstructure of surfaces. The objective is to contribute to the understanding of the causes of corrosion in oil and gas pipes and the mechanisms of corrosion involved in steels, which can lead to film formation or nucleation and propagation of cracks in sour environments. It is expected that the results allow to establish a correlation between pH values and corrosion parameters associated with interfacial phenomena (weight loss, potential and corrosion current density, resistance to polarization) and others related mainly to the ferritic microstructure of steels (number and size of cracks and permeation current density) in an attempt to determine what combination of factors favors each type of corrosion.
