Abstract

Translation has always played a key role in spreading ideas, culture and knowledge. The technological advances of recent decades have led to an unprecedented production of information, and Internet has become a tremendous means of storage and dissemination. As a consequence, since most of such content is written in different languages, the demand for translation has also grown exponentially. A huge part of that demand is not supplied by professional translators, as they include texts that are of interest to people and organizations of limited resources, which cannot afford their service. This project aims to verify the technical viability of creating an online crowdfunding platform to allow people and institutions that need the translation of the same content available on the Internet to share the costs of that translation. Although crowdfunding has grown quickly and become more and more popular in recent years, there is no platform aimed specifically to translation industry. The platform we aim to created based on the results of this research project will allow the company to create a new market niche and met that demand, building a bridge between people interested in reading translated content, professional translators, and content creators. Moreover, by making translations available to the public, it will favor the exchange of ideas, information and knowledge in different languages through the Internet. (AU)
