Experimental and computational assays on molecular targets with pharmacological importance and interactions with natural products

Abstract

The Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2015 was awarded to researchers William C. Campbell, Satoshi Omura, and You You Tu. The first two by the discovery of the natural product avermictins and its derivative ivermectin, which greatly diminishes the incidence of Onchocerciasis (known as river blindness) and lymphatic Filaria (known as elephantiasis), and to the researcher Youyou Tu for the discovery of the natural product coming Of plant origin artemisinin, which reduces the mortality rate of patients with malaria. These discoveries brought back the scenario of research into new drugs, products originating from microorganisms and natural products (PN). Although the areas of pharmacology and natural products have in their collection multiple experimental techniques for in vivo and in vitro study. However the molecular approach is still restricted. The systematic and joint application of experimental and computational techniques with physical foundation has the capacity to elucidate molecular mechanisms that occur during the interaction process between drugs and molecular targets.
