Abstract

Although several studies deal with the importance to improve the management of horticultural production, little has been developed for this purpose. Most of the technological development of horticulture deals with the traditional aspects of agronomic science, such as: cultivation, nutrition, genetical enhancement, plant health etc. Additionally, horticulture has characteristics that justify the development of management technologies appropriate to their reality: a) limited storage capacity due to the perishable nature of production; b) seasonality of production and demand; c) price fluctuation; d) strong social impact; e) economic relevance etc.A limited result is achieved when production planning to meet the market demand is done considering only internal variables to the property. When a producer makes decisions alone ends up generating excess or lack of supply causing crop losses, unnecessary prices fluctuations, shortages etc. Instead, with a community of producers sharing information with each other, it's possible to synchronize supply and demand, compare performance indicators and improve the performance of the whole community involved. This research assumes that the sharing of information among members of a producer's community contributes to improve the quality of internal decisions to each specific property. This project goal is to develop an innovative and collaborative solution, which translates demand information into a production plan that maximizes profitability considering the constraints of roses system production. Through a mathematical approach, the proposed system creates a planting plan and harvest forecast. With a community of producers using the system is possible to calculate an aggregated forecast which is shared among the system users. If there is excess supply or deficit compared to the expected demand the producer can keep or change its original production plan. The inter-organizational collaborative approach and the mathematical models will be developed to fit as many crops as possible. To develop systems with high portability among different cultures is a priority for the company. Thus, in a first approach, it will be evaluated the adequacy of mathematical models developed previously for growing lilies in the cultivation of roses. The choice of roses cultivation is justified by the economic importance of this product, technological level of producers supporting the project and knowledge cultivation by the researcher. (AU)
