Sweat as a target biological matrix for determination of Fentanyl-derived compounds and synthetic Cathinones

Abstract

The emergence and spread of new psychoactive substances throughout the world represents a troubling public health problem. As in cases of intoxication involving already known drugs of abuse, it is necessary to identify and detect these substances in biological fluids. The analytical challenge is to chose the appropriate biological matrix for analysis as well as to develop and to validate a method for detecting these new substances in this matrix. In recent years, sweat has been proposed as an alternative biological matrix and different substances of forensic interest, such as drugs of abuse, have been successfully investigated in this biological fluid, which has advantages over other fluids commonly used in analysis, such as blood and urine. In this sense, the proposal of this project is to explore the analysis of these new psychoactive substances, which is still in sweat, which is still few explored in literature, with the development and validation of an analytical method employing Gas Phase Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry.
