Web and mobile application for regional meteorological data for farmers

Abstract

Agriculture is one of the economic activities most susceptible to variations in weather and climate. Field operations such as planting, application of pesticides or fertilizers, harvesting, among others, depend on meteorological information to be carried out effectively. However, the generalized language of this information, in addition to the lack of accuracy, often makes this data unusable for decision making, which can lead to productivity losses. Thus, the purpose of this work is to create a web and mobile application that contains forecasts of weather and climate, as well as real-time nowcasting in a clear and objective language for the daily use of farmers. This will be done through the regionalization of weather and climate forecasts available using the dynamic downscaling technique. In addition, a georeferencing system will be developed to allow a small team of meteorologists to be able to warn of any changes in weather forecast so that the farmer doesn't lose his application of pesticides, for example. These early warnings are able to reduce expenses by up to R$ 150 per hectare per application lost with chemicals, as well as costs for machinery and labor. Also, the regional weather and climate information, will be able to offer a more detailed forecast in terms of reliability through the probability of occurrence of certain phenomena, and due to a more realistic simulation of local meteorological circulations. Therefore, it is expected that this application meet the needs of the farmers reducing operational costs. (AU)
