Abstract
This project concerns the Aristotelian theory of emotions. The aim is not only to clarify Aristotle's understanding of this psychological phenomenon but also to analyze deeply the Aristotelian metaphysics of emotions and its contemporary appropriations by the so-called neoaristotelians. We will approach the Aristotelian theory of emotions from three perspectives: the hylemorphism (de anima, metaphysics), the cognitive aspect of the emotions (ethics) and the power of persuasion that makes people to accept some propositions (rhetoric). All these perspectives converge in the definition of anger. Anger has a privileged place in our project because it is a paradigmatic example of emotions in the Aristotelian psychology. (AU)
