Abstract
The Cerrados of the Center-North of Brazil constitute a region that partially covers the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia and where new poles of expansion of modernized brazilian agriculture emerge. This region gains prominence and emergence of economic dynamics associated with agribusiness. The verified changes indicate important changes in the regional productive structure, materialized by the introduction of modern technical apparatuses and new socioeconomic agents geared to meet the demands of this sector. But this phenomenon generates environmental, economic and social implications in the region. These changes did not spread with the same intensity to all the municipalities of the region. In contrast, most of them did not gain dynamism in the urban economy, despite the increase in agricultural modernization in the countrysideFrom the point of view of education, this highly-skilled agribusiness demands a growing need for specialized education. This research assumes that the new economy generated by agribusiness in the region of study represents or directly influences educational indicators. Based on a set of goals proposed by the National Education Plan (Law No. 13005/2014) focused on Basic Education, this research seeks to establish and discuss critically the relationship between economic growth in the region and the improvement of local quality of life. The main objective is to analyze how the new economy impacts on the educational indicators in the region. (AU)
