Abstract

In this PhD project, the student will study the possibility of improving the quality of Kirchhoff migration in complex media by means of its combination with the the technique of Kirchhoff redatuming. The idea is to avoid the need of using multiple arrivals in the migration by migrating only that part of the subsurface region under investigation where only one arrival exists, and subsequently applying a redatuming to the seismic data so as to position them at a new datum within the imaged part. The full subsurface image will then be constructed by an iteration of the processes of migration and redatuming.
