Abstract The atmospheric showers produced by cosmic rays with energies above 10 EeV are detected in the Pierre Auger Observatory using two different type of detectors. With these measurements, the energy, the direction and possibly the composition of the primary particle can be inferred. However, the quantity of secondary particles detected by the surface detectors far from the shower core fluctuates more than expected from the simulation. This project will study and understand these fluctuations, that limit the precision of the reconstructed shower direction. (AU) | |
