Abstract

The growing demand of supplying providing water against the lower availability of water that can be consumed (treated) with techniques less expensive and faster, led to the awareness of an urgent necessity of treating sewer the choice for the implementation of a treatment system in a city should attend the environment, social and economic requirements. This research intends to make the applicability of the developed model by Oliveira (2004) more valid and effective in order to offer some help to the people who make the decisions in the Brazilian cities administration choosing the best treatment system, considering the optimization of the quantitative administration of the environment and financial resources available. The model elaborates the size of the treatment units, the cost estimated to each system composed by implementation items, maintenance and operation to a certain useful life. Interviews will be done in areas related to sanitation area in Brazil as well as with decision makers and specialists in order to collect the necessary data to apply the model and verify how the treatment systems were chosen in some cities. This research intends to make some improvements on the model and evaluate its to help the cities choosing their sewer treatment system.
