Abstract

The world’s current economic system requires faster and more efficient processes. Meeting this demand has become a critical factor for the competitiveness of the industries and production systems. Better machine tools and enhanced processes are enabling higher quality products to be manufactured. In order to address these issues, some challenges are being placed upon the Metrology realm concerning the achievement of higher-accuracy measuring systems and standards; robust algorithms to evaluate errors; accuracy in the evaluation of uncertainty; and higher speed in the measuring process. Thus, this project presents a proposal for development of an automated measuring system for flatness assessment of parts. The system includes an industrial six-degrees-of-freedom robot, displacement sensors, an acquisition board and an integrated computer. Some relevant aspects that should be considered are the application of methods using redundant data and the algorithms used for error separation. This proposal includes a literature review about these themes. For the development of this work, some of these methods will be studied in detail and some algorithms must be implemented first to sets of prospective data, and, after that, to sets of data acquired by means of the proposed system. Additionally, Linear Programming methods might be used to assess the flatness error value. The uncertainty of the proposed measuring system will be evaluated as well.
