Abstract

The considerable concern about water pollution in the environment has driven efforts to the development of new materials with properties to be used as filter in effluent treatments. Preparation of hydrous niobium phosphate by conventional precipitation from metallic niobium has shown very good results regarding its use for adsorption of surfactants. Works have been done on preparation of cellulose/metallic oxides (Cel/MxOy) composites for diverse applications. However, there is no literature about the study of Cel/NbOPO4.nH2O composites. In this context, the objective of this work is to prepare Cel/NbOPO4.nH2O composites from metallic niobium and bleached cellulose from sugar cane bagasse, via conventional precipitation using two national abundant and low cost materials. Characterization of these materials will be studied by thermogravimetry (TG), ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy (MEV) connected to an energy dispersive spectrophotometer (EDS), by surface area measurements (BET) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Samples with different dimensions prepared from the composites will be studied regarding their mechanical behavior through tensile and compression assays, according to ASTM. It will also be studied their surfactant adsorption behavior in hybrid organic-inorganic and characterization by thermogravimetry (TG), ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy (MEV) connected to an energy dispersive spectrophotometer (EDS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
