Abstract

The purpose of this project is to approach the concept of geometrical phases via concrete examples of gauge theories. This will provide the student with a strong background in various problems in the interface between Physics and Geometry, mostly via the theory of connections on fiber bundles. Finally, the student will be presented to several subjects of ongoing research, especially in the context of extended bodies in gravitation. (AU)
