Abstract

This research intends to analyze the role of cooperation among the amazon countries for the management of transboundary water resources in Amazonia, specifically, the project of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) for the integrated and sustainable management of amazon water resources, and the case of local management plan in the triple boundary of Madre de Díos (Peru), Acre (Brazil) and Pando (Bolivia). Methodology is based in the bibliographical analysis and in the analysis of documents related to the amazon cooperation and the management of water resources, and also in interviews with authorities of ACTO and amazon countries and in a field work in the triple boundary of Brazil, Bolivia and Peru, where the MAP Initiative (Madre de Díos, Acre, Pando) is developing a local management plan for the Acre river basin.
