Abstract

The present work intends to study the book A América Latina: males de origem (1905) of Manoel Bomfim (1868-1932). It is aimed at establishing connections between the thoughts of some Latin American authors as José Martí (1853-1895) and José Enrique Rodó (1871-1917), for instance, who developed interesting reflections on the relation among South American countries and the United States of America. This study presents a comparative point of view, and, therefore, pays attention to other important contributions like some of the ideas of Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), as well as to Manuel Ugarte's (1875-1951) texts critical position in relation to Pan Americanism.
