Abstract

The deepening of the recent international financial crisis indicates a reorganization of the world economic system. The transmission of effects from the financial to the productive area shows the importance of credit as one channel of this interrelation. Due to the intensification of the "financialization" process during the 1980s, finances became an important feature of the logic behind big enterprises' behavior. The crisis has enlarged the difficulties faced by American corporations from the automobile sector, since the global scarcity of credit has, on the one hand, decelerated the demand for durable goods, reducing the car sales, and on the other hand, intensified the process of postponement of investment decisions. Moreover, it has deteriorated the debt refinance. In this context, the research aims to analyze the finance pattern of automobile industry, taking as reference the Keynesian and Schumpeterian theories. It is proposed the comprehension of the distinct characteristics involving the firm finance: the finance for investment, production and commercialization. For this, it is needed the inclusion of carmakers' financial agents in the analysis, because they are directly associated with sales and non-operational profits. The study is based mainly on analytical elements, in order to present the spectrum of finance in these corporations.
