Abstract

Obesity has become a public health problem in recent decades. When related to children and adolescents, it is even more worrying by the problems in the organizational and socio-behavioral associated with obesity. The increase in energy expenditure with physical activity is recognized as an important adjuvant in programs to reduce body mass. However, the impact of physical activity in a systematic way on the energy expenditure of carbohydrates and fats and the relationship with obese individuals, is still questionable. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the components of energy metabolism, before, during and after maximum effort exercise, in adolescents who practice and not practice regular physical activity. The sample is composed of 30 obese and overweight adolescents, aged between 12 and 16 years (training group: 15; control group: 15). Initially, will be classified as overweight / obese by BMI and thereafter shall be subjected to medical evaluations; Absorptiometria X-ray dual-energy (DEXA), assessment of the resting metabolic rate (RMR) and energy expenditure (EE) by means of indirect calorimetry and VO2max, for analysis of the metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids. The intervention by physical activity will be given in three weekly sessions for 12 weeks and after that period, all participants will be reassessed.
