Abstract

This project aims to study the effect of external agents of normal cell physiology, specifically those found on air pollution, in the mechanics of smooth muscle tissue strips collected from the trachea of male Wistar rats. We will expose separately the samples collected from the trachea smooth muscle of rats to two categories of pollutants. We will washes and centrifugate the product of pollution and separate in two groups: (i) heavy particles and (ii) solute. For mechanical analysis, we will use the equipment of the Air Pollution Laboratory (LIM-HC 05). From the theoretical point of view, we will adapt a model network of springs already established, to meet our experimental conditions. Our hypothesis is that acute exposure of the sample of smooth muscle in these two groups will show opposite effects, ie the heavier particles tend to aggregate with the molecules of integrin and damage the cell skeleton, while the soluble pollution will trigger some form of the contractile apparatus.
