Abstract

Computer science research applied to biodiversity presents many challenges, such as large amounts of heterogeneous and varied data. Query and search approaches avaible are still limited, and ordinarily only consider textual data, ignoring other kinds of data exploration, like images or sounds. The project goal is to analyze the problem of performing multimodal search combining text and images, for the biodiversity domain. The idea is to design a set of tools to process this search. It is expected that this integrated search will allow more comprehensive results, helping biodiversity researchers in their tasks, besides and encouraging lay users to access these data. This work is being developed within the BioCORE project, an association between computer and biology researchers to improve the biodiversity research.
