Abstract

Periodontal diseases are infections that affect the healthy periodontium with polymorphic clinical manifestations and multifactorial etiology. Clinical manifestations of loss of periodontal ligament and alveolar bone loss, periodontal pockets, gingival inflammation, and gingival recession, gingival bleeding, increased tooth mobility may or may not occur exfoliation of the tooth. The bacterial etiology of the disease is a broad field of study due to the complexity and variety of species and subspecies involved in disease development. Spectroscopy is a powerful tool in molecular analysis of microorganisms can provide valuable biochemical information on the identification and classification of microorganisms quickly, accurately and in a shorter time compared to the usual techniques. This technique represents an analytical method, not destructive and dynamic to investigate a population of cells with little biomass. The present work aims at the characterization and identification by optical spectroscopy, strains - standard American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and clinical strains of microorganisms involved in the etiology of the disease. Use of the technique to study the bacterial etiology of periodontal disease can provide valuable information for clarifying the complexity of the disease
