Abstract

Often when we think about Gypsies, one imagines a group of similar people with the same customs and traditions. This study aims to show how the Gypsy cultural tradition has been able to establish a dynamic and performative identity in spite of its complex diversity. Indeed, the term Gypsy is a stereotype created based on collective representations experienced by individuals of different cultural traditions over centuries of contact. With this you a description of a gypsy family group Calon. From a theoretical discussion about the concept of ethnic identity and ethnicity are some peculiar characteristics of these ethnic groups, in addition to constant persecution and sectarian practices which have been victims as well as their collective experiences aimed at defending their rights and interests in Brazil .
