Abstract

The intensification of fish production in Brazil has demanded searches on genetically improved strains, such as Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of the GIFT (Genetic Improvement of Farmed Tilapia) strain, cultivated in our environments. The GIFT strain, when compared with other strains of non-selected Nile tilapia, presented higher weight gain and carcass yield, which are important factors for production. The growth rate of farmed fish is one of the most important factors for the success of aquaculture and knowledge about the mechanisms of muscle growth of fish species commercially cultivated may indicate strategies that benefit development, production and marketing. Thus, knowledge about the mechanisms that control muscle development and the variation that may occur during muscle growth, considering that temperature variations can be of great importance for aquaculture. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the morphology and the expression of genes, which control muscle development and growth in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of the GIFT strain cultivated at different temperatures. morphological and morphometric analysis and expression of genes for myogenic regulatory factors MyoD and Miogenina and growth factor Miostatina will be performed by Polymerase Chain Reaction in Real-time after Reverse Transcription (qRT-PCR). The obtained results will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis. (AU)
