Abstract

This study aims to determine and compare the metabolic and cardiorrespiratory responses at higher limit in heavy domain of exercise in subjects with different level of aerobic training in cycling. Male cyclists with ages between 20 and 30 years old will be divided in two groups, according to their cycling level: C -well-trained cyclists, with at least 3 years of experience in modality, and; NT- subjects without previous training experience in cycling. The subjects will perform in different days the following test sessions, in an ergometer cycle: 1) progressive test, to determine the anaerobic threshold (AT), peak oxygen uptake (VO2max) and intensity associated with VO2max (IVO2max); 2) 2 to 4 workload test sessions of 30 minutes at different intensities, to determine the maximal lactate steady state (MLSS); 3) 3 workload test sessions until voluntary exhaustion at 95, 100 and 110% IVO2max to determine the critical power intensity (CP); 4) test until the voluntary exhaustion at CP, and 5) test until the voluntary exhaustion at 105% CP. The AT will be determined through linear interpolation between the power and blood lactate concentration, considering a fixed blood lactate value of 3.5 mM. The CP will be determined through relation between the power and the exhaustion time, and will correspond to the asymptote of the power vs. time curve.
