Abstract

"Morphologic and morphometric comparative analysis of the specimens and species of Micronycteris (Phyllostomidae - Chiroptera) deposited in Brazilian scientific collections"The bats of the genus Micronycteris undergone changes of classification and new species were described in the last thirteen years. Currently the genus is composed of five pale - bellied species: M. brosseti, M. homezi, M. minuta, M. sanborni, M. schmidtorum and five dark - bellied species: M. hirsuta, M. megalotis, M. microtis M. matses and M. giovanniae. Such descriptions and classification changes have brought greater detail of the various characters in comparisons between species of the genus. Thus, there is need to review the achievements of scientific collections in Brazil. The fact that the bats of the genus Micronycteris are rarely captured in high number, and the problems of identification of various species are also reasons for the revision of specimens deposited in research collections. The overall objective of this project is to review taxonomically, based on morphological and morphometric characters, specimens of the genus Micronycteris deposited in several collections in Brazil and also based on the current descriptions. In the present study will be assessed 47 morphological and morphometric characters of specimens of following collections: DZSJRP, ZUEC-MAM, MZUSP, MBML, ALP-UFRRJ and other collections.
