Abstract

The object of this masters degree project is to analyse de role of tiranic Siracusian government in city's urban reorganization, founded by Greeks in VIII b.C. For that, we are going to explore in written sources the authors that discribe Sicily's importants characteristics. They are: Diodoro Siculo, main reference for Syracuse, as well as Herodoto, Tucidides, Estrabao, Cicero, Polibio e Pausanias. The confrontation between the written and the archaeological sources will give us the elements for better compreending the different phases of occupation Asty-urban space and Khora-territory of Syracuse, since the foundation's moment until the fifth century b.C. The compulsory rearrangements of the population made by the tyrants should be analysed in the context of changes observed in polis Siracusana's space.
