Abstract

Astronomy was considered a mathematical discipline for a long time. In the sixteenth century, it was studied as a discipline of the quadrivium and had a great importance for navigation. In that period, several scholars devoted their efforts to publishing works on the subject. In this work, we intend to translate and comment the work Ouranographia, by Adriaan van Roomen (1561-1615) and understand how mathematics and astronomy are related in this text. Furthermore, we wish to investigate how the social, political and historical context of that moment interfere in this work.
