Abstract

Among the BRIC countries, Brazil truly stands out in terms of potential for both economic and political success. That success is likely to lead Brazil to become a significant world power over the coming decades. In addition to its bright general economic and political prospects, Brazil possesses several unique traits and resources that are likely to underpin its strength as a global power. This research will examine, in the form of hypotheses, these traits' likely effects on Brazil's emergence as a global power and the consequences for Brazil's relations with the United States. After identifying and analyzing the specific factors that could drive a shift in mutual perceptions between Brazil and the United States, the project will proceed to examine whether these factors will be significant enough to change the countries' respective Weltanschauungs to a degree that could lead to a shift in the bilateral regime between Brazil and the United States and ultimately change the prevailing international-relations system. To accomplish this objective, this project will involve gathering and analyzing of facts, detecting themes and patterns, and synthesizing new findings into sound and relevant conclusions that bring fresh, novel insights to academic literature. In addition to informing academic dialogue, this project will aspire to empower key policy-makers and business leaders to make well-informed forward-looking strategic decisions in areas such as foreign policy, financial investment, and commercial planning by providing predictive insights into how Brazil will continue to emerge as a world power and how this shift in global power dynamics potentially could change the international-relations system. These predictions will be analyzed and presented in the context of prominent theories of international relations.
