Abstract

The quality of the alaryngeal communication is priority in the rehabilitation of the total laryngectomees patients. The knowledge of the anatomy and physiology for the production of alaryngeal communication is crucial, which can be assessed with instruments such as manometry and electromyography. The objective of this research is to compare the intraluminal pressure with the electromyography activity of the pharyngoesophageal transition (TFE) during rest and phonation. This study will analyze 40 individuals, without distinction of age and gender, who have been submitted to total laryngectomy and had been directed to primary or secondary insertion of voice prosthesis. At first, the laryngectomees people will be submitted to evaluation of voice for selection of the speakers' individuals. Later, the laryngectomees selection will be directed to manometry examination for the evaluation of intraluminal pressure in the pharyngoesophageal transition during rest and phonation. Afterwards, the patients will be submitted to electromyography will be applied to evaluate the muscular activity of the pharyngoesophageal transition during rest and phonation. The obtained data will receive specific statistical treatment.
