Abstract

Bacteria, found in terrestrial and aquatic environments, besides their important role in organic matter decomposition and nutrient cycling, are a source of food for organisms of higher trophic levels such as protozoa and mesozooplankton organisms. This study aims to evaluate the relative importance of ciliate and flagellate protozoa and mesozooplanktonic organisms as consumers of bacteria in an eutrophic environment (Monjolinho Reservoir-SP) by measuring their consumption rates. For this, bacterivory (grazing) experiments will be carried "in situ" using inert and fluorescent latex microspheres which will be analyzed by epifluorescence microscopy. In the days of the experiments will also be analyzed limnological parameters (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, electrical conductivity, water transparency, chlorophyll and nutrients) and biological parameters (bacterioplankton, mesozooplankton and protozooplankton density). Sampling and field experiments will be carried out every two months during the period of one year on the surface of a central sampling point in the reservoir.
