Abstract

This project aims to study the changes and continuities in the central districts of Sao Paulo, considering the physical structures and the groups of foreigners who settled in their territories. The Liberdade neighborhood is approached in order to identify the processes that induced its structuring and consolidation as a center of trade and services. The research is organized through the analysis of the physical and social processes, as well as the forms of sociability - strategies and practices of appropriation by foreigners. The research seeks, actually, to uncover the specifities and heterogeneities in the central district of Liberdade, taking into account the Asian groups, their institutions and associations.
