Abstract

This project aims to study how the Brazilian voter behaves in choosing their candidates within the same election, given that, on occasion, different positions are up for grabs. The analysis focuses on verifying whether voters vote for candidates of different parties in one election, this behavior is called the literature of "split-ticket voting." The study of "split-ticket voting" proposed in this project seeks to determine the division of voting that occurs between the mayor and councilman, as the executive-legislative relations are important in the debate on the functioning of democracy in Brazil.
