Teaching gerontological evaluation to gerontology students

Abstract

Studies indicate the importance of gerontological multidimensional evaluation in the diagnosis of elderly's health conditions and the efficient in the interventions. Knowing to do a gerontological multidimensional evaluation is a skill expected for the future professional of Gerontology. The objective of this research is to analyze how the Gerontology undergraduate courses at America, Portugal and Spain teach gerontological evaluation content for gerontology students, bearing in mind to create educational software that can be used in distance education. This is an explanatory and analytical study with a descriptive nature with the usage of the qualitative method of investigation using as a technique the Documental Analysis. It'll be conducted with 64 higher education institutions offering gerontology undergraduate courses at America, Portugal and Spain. It'll be consider the following eligibility criteria: 1 - To be one of the 64 institutions identified in a previous project and 2 - To have information available online that can identify if the institution offers or not content of Gerontology evaluation. The research will be conducted in four stages. The first two steps refer to the analysis of documents available online by universities that offer or not the content of gerontological evaluation and the period that it is offered. The third stage includes the identification of gerontological evaluation questionnaire used by universities, and finally the fourth step refers to a gerontology experts consensus to create a protocol of gerontological evaluation. The pre analyze of data will be presented to two judges. All ethical procedures will be observed during the collecting and analyzing process of data. This project will strengthen the the research line knowledge and practices of the Gerontology Research Group Health and Aging, led by the researcher of this project.
