Abstract

The present project of research has as objective to contribute for the study of some of the books of Portuguese author Wenceslau de Moraes (1854-1929) with respect to a common aspect in his literary production: Japan. To intently examine imaginary on Japan in the literary production of the author in question means to inquire how he materialize literarily in his books, by means of descriptions, formal figures of language and other resources, apart from judgments of value concerning the Japanese culture. This study aims at to discuss the relation East-West in Portuguese literature of the passage of century XIX for century XX and to evidence the peculiarities of this Western writer in the treatment with the call Eastern culture.
