Abstract Arsenic (As) is highly toxic to humans and the plants were an important route of contamination. The determination of the bioavailability of As and the amount distributed in different pools of soil allow the characterization of ecological risk, however, there is no established method to quantify The phytoavailability, and little is known about the influence of pH on the distribution of As solid phase in contaminated soils. The project consists of two experiments and the first will evaluate the effect of pH (3.5 and 7.5) The distribution of the different pools of soil. For this, the contaminated soil will have their pH adjusted with HNO3 and CaCO3 and will be the selective sequential extraction (SSE). The second essay is to evaluate the chemical extractants on the efficiency in predicting The phytoavailability in contaminated soils. We will evaluate the extractors simple AB-DTPA, calcium phosphate, calcium chloride, ion-exchange resin modified by RAIJ, ion exchange resin with modification (conditioning of the resin and removal of ions) suggested by this work and the selective sequential extraction. The experiment will be conducted in a greenhouse, using a plant tolerant and one sensitive to high doses of As, grown by at least 20 samples of contaminated soil. The levels of As obtained by different procedures will be related to dry matter production and The accumulated in the shoot. | |
