Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major health problems and its prevalence has increased in recent decades. It has been demonstrated that OA causes adverse effects in sleep and that these changes in sleep seem to have a correlation with the function and the physical performance of patients with OA. However, no study until this moment demonstrated the effects of changes in sleep in controlling sensory-motor and systemic inflammatory response in patients with OA. Thus, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the influence of changes in sleep in controlling sensory-motor (postural control and neuromuscular) and inflammatory markers (cytokines) in patients with knee OA degrees I or II. This study involved 60 male volunteers. These volunteers shall be distributed in four groups: Group 1 (n=15): osteoarthritis and good sleep quality; Group 2 (n=15): osteoarthritis and bad sleep quality; Group 3 (n=15): Without osteoarthritis and good sleep quality; Group 4 (n=15): Without osteoarthritis and bad sleep quality. All volunteers carry out an polysomnography to detect the presence or absence of amendments of sleep. shall be carried out test dynamometer isocinético for evaluation of time acceleration, the torque isometric maximum and isocinético concentric and eccentric maximum quadriceps muscle and a test of strength submaximal to assess the control neuromuscular. It will also be carried out a test platform in strength to evaluate the postural control uni and bipodal, as also respond to the questionnaire WOMAC that assesses the quality of life in patients with OA. Blood shall be collected for analysis of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1 alpha, IL-1BETA, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12, IL-10, TGF-beta). THE significance level considered shall be 5% (pd0.05). | |
