Abstract

The objective of the present work is to study the wave dynamical processes occurring in the middle atmosphere at low latitude in Brazil, which can be detailed as follows.1) To study propagation characteristics of the Gravity Waves and Tides in the stratosphere, mesosphere and lower thermosphere.2) To examine the contribution of the Gravity Waves to the atmospheric energy budget in terms of momentum and energy (kinetic and potential) estimates by the use of Meteor radar data.3) Develop climatologic study of the Gravity Waves and Tides using long-term wind and temperature data from ground based (equipment in Brazil) and space based instruments (satellite TIMED/SABER)to provide sufficient inputs to the models of Gravity Waves and tide parameterization.4) To understand the complicated processes of wave-wave, wave-tide and wave-mean wind interactions.5) Analyze the effect of Gravity waves on the long period oscillation characteristics, e.g. semiannual (SAO), annual (AO) and quasi-biennial (QBO) oscillations.
