Abstract

Moebius Syndrome (MS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by total or partial involvement of the facial and abducens nerves. Orofacial characteristics include lack of facial expression, difficulty with sucking, tongue malformation, mandibular hypoplasia, saliva drooling, arched palate and micrognathia. Individuals with MS can present dysphasia, malocclusion and temporo mandibular disorders.The aim of this study is classify individual with MS according to the Oral Motor Assessment Scale (OMAS) using clinical and imaginologic exams. At least 40 individuals with SM will be examined by the same researcher. Oclusal and cephalometric analysis will be performed and the data will be tabulated. This study is important because it drives the improvement of knowledge of a syndrome which affects large and rising number of children in Brazil. Based on new information about cranio facial growth, the dentists will be able to diagnose and treat better their Moebius patients
