Abstract

The story of the Quilmes Indians, located in northwest Argentina, represents a paradigmatic case: it allows us to analyze the material and cultural continuities of a people in spite of the ethnocide and genocide processes, which lasted from the moment of the contact until the present days. This entire path can be followed in the Ciudad Sagrada Quilmes, where they are not only located the monumental archaeological remains of this ancient Andean culture, but also reflects a contemporary archaeological aspects of domination and resistance experienced by these people over centuries of colonial occupation. In this context, we wish to analyze both, the construction of historical and archeological narratives made by the Quilmes Indians and the others throughout the XIX, XX and XXI centuries. To do so, we will not only analyses the sources regarding historical narratives, but we will depart to a field survey from an historical and anthropological view to be able to analyze spoken and written sources. This highlight the historical agents character of the native populations and shows how they act and face the (academic or not) externally constructed historical truth. (AU)
