Abstract

Aluminum (Al) is toxic for most plants at micromolar concentrations, limiting the agricultural productivity in great areas of the planet. The maize gene Zmal I is expressed exclusively in the epidermal cells of the root apex, the main site of Al toxicity. This project aims the learning of methodologies of molecular biology and biotechnology that will be used to characterize the gene and promoter of the Zmal I gene.
