Abstract This is a research proposal for the undegraduate student Marcelo Matheus Gauy, who will work under the supervision of Y. Kohayakawa, at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Sao Paulo, from 1 June to 31 December 2011 (7 months). The proposed research is in the area of extremal combinatorics and focuses on recent advances in the area of extremal problems for random discrete structures. Crucial to this project will be the manuscripts of Conlon and Gowers [Combinatorial theorems in sparse random sets, submetido, 70pp, 2010], Friedgut, Rödl and Schacht [Ramsey properties of random discrete structures, Random Structures Algorithms 37 (2010), no. 4, 407--436] and Schacht [Extremal results for random discrete structures}, submitted, 27pp, 2009]. | |
