Abstract

The surubin (Pseudoplatystoma reticutatum x P. corruscans) is a fish with high commercial value and acceptation in the market, being considerated one of the most promisors species for aquaculture production in Brazil. However, sanitary problems has been present as one of the main barriers for development of rearing of this specie. Currently, the outbreaks control of bacterial infections is realized by oral antibiotic therapy and immersion baths with disinfectant substances. Lots of them, despite the sensitivity of the pathogens to the drugs, the fast evolution of the diseases compromises the efficiency of these therapies. Vaccines have been used with success in rearing of different species of fish. Those protect the fish by artificial stimulation of the innate and adaptive immunity, previously in contact with the disease, becoming the fish resistance against them. Recently, has been described for the first time the occurrence of outbreaks of infection by bacteria Lactococcus garvieae in pintado in Brazil. This pathogen is considered emerging for the worldwide aquaculture and can generate several economical losses for different production chains for whole year. The goal of this experiment is developed a vaccine for juveniles of surubins against the pathogen Lactococcus garvieae. The efficiency of the vaccine will be determined for the relative percentage of survival of the vaccinated and non-vaccinated animals. Moreover, hematological and immunological parameters will be evaluated to characterize the immune response induced by the product. The immunobiological development in this project will be subject to patent and will be constituted as an viable alternative to control this disease in field, thus assisting the strengthening of the worldwide aquaculture.
