Abstract

The objective of this project is to study, evaluate and implement techniques for detecting faults in underground distribution systems. After a survey of the state of the art on the subject, we intend implement some of the methods available in literature. To achieve these goals successfully, it is necessary to analyze the dynamic performance of electrical distribution systems. This can be accomplished by using of physical and mathematical models for the numerical solution and computational tools designed for simulate electromagnetic transients. Through these resources, we hope to develop techniques to improve the performance of buried electrical systems, whose importance is even greater for Brazil, since it has the largest underground system in Latin America.
