Abstract

As a result of the ethanol production process, stillage can be biologically treated through anaerobic digestion (AD) process. AD has a very high potential when it comes to CH4 and H2 production, which is what enables the recovery of energy. The resulting effluent of the stillage anaerobic treatment may be further treated by the application of the conventional physical-chemical processes, such as coagulation, mixing, flocculation and sedimentation. The purpose of this study is to adjust the best parameters of the coagulation and mixing processes to effluents of anaerobic reactors applied to stillage treatment and, thus, to verify whether the final effluent is able to be reused for non-potable purposes.
